Analysis Of The Leopard - 944 Words

In novels, the particular way in which information is disseminated dictates the delineation of plot and the reader’s perception of action. For example, Albert Camus’ The Outsider often reads as a newspaper article, as the terse and objective style is detached and journalistic. In contrast, the narrator’s voice in Franz Kakfa’s The Trial is witty and more personal. Furthermore, in Giuseppe di Lampedusa’s The Leopard, the style is elaborate and romantic, which aggrandizes and animates certain actions and objects. However, the styles of these novels also dictate what is expressed altogether. In The Trial, K.’s incessant need to ask questions without answering them overlooks information and forsakes clarity. Likewise, the unemotional and limited language in The Outsider omits Meursault’s thoughts and emotions. In contrast, The Leopard’s grandiose and convoluted style overwhelms the reader with information and minute details. While t he novels are diverse in their use of language, all three styles nonetheless dictate what is presented, rather than how it is presented, and challenge the reader to discern fact or meaning from either the absence or excess of information. In The Trial, the way in which K. constantly questions himself and other characters particularly creates a language of omission. Franz and Willem’s arrival at the beginning of the novel catalyzes the novel’s questioning nature, as they force K. to ask, â€Å"‘Who are you?’† (Kafka 4). Entreat free essay sample

The British alternative band, The Cure, recently released a live album called Entreat recorded at Wembley arena (London) in July, 1989. We lucky Americans get to give it a listen to since it has recently been imported. It definitely is worth the wait. The Cure perform eight songs off their Disintegration LP. These songs already had a mood and melody that are both inspiring and intriguing, but hearing them performed live adds a nice atmospheric charm. Robert Smith and company offer us little added twists to their already appealing songs: a more powerful version of Disintegration and a more intense version of Fascination Street. Robert Smith himself said that the Disintegration album contained his best singles. So what could be better than hearing him sing them live? His beautifully written lyrics blend dreamily with the melodic and simply elegant guitar riff. The Cure is now in a slight stage of ruins, but with them you cant ever be sure. We will write a custom essay sample on Entreat or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Touring is a rather touchy subject with the band. Therefore Entreat is the closest thing you are going to get to The Cure live. (They really dont like to tour America.) Entreat offers Cure fans in America an alternative to flying to England to hear them. Besides, its almost as good as being there. Even if you are one of the lucky fans who happened to catch The Cure on their American leg of the Prayers tour, its still worth it to give Entreat a listen. And if youre not a Cure fan or not a huge Cure fan, Entreat is a good album to introduce you to them or to let you get to know them better. n
